Abram Games Exhibition

We were asked to visit the exhibition of Abram Games at Dean Clough in Halifax before the start of term so today me and some of my friends who are also on my course went to go and have a look. I liked the exhibition as it had a mixture of finished artwork and posters along with the primary sketches that eventually would become final pieces. It was really interesting to see this in an exhibition as normally its just the very final pieces of work that are shown but it was good to look at how his design ideas developed from a sketch to the final piece.

Typography Grid and Layout Brief

This typography brief was all about grids and layout, which initially I found quite challenging but after looking at pieces of type work and picking out the grid lines within them it became a lot easier. The brief was to create your own grid so i made mine out of card and tried to place or involve it in as many different surfaces/textures as possible. These are just a few pictures from my sketch book for the brief.

Brett Ryder

I found Brett Ryder by chance after looking few other designers blogs to see how they gained a reputation for themselves and learnt how significant a blog can really be! After browsing through a lot of his work on his website I knew I had to put up a post on my blog as I was really interested in his illustrations and thought you might be too! So heres a few pieces of work I particularly liked, so go and check out the rest!

Patterns

These are a few more patterns that I have been working on and i am keen to keep working on them as I think they could be worked on more to produce another piece of work. I have drawn them onto acetate with a special pen and then scanned them onto the computer. I think at a later date I will see how different i can make them look by using effects on photoshop.

Orchid Pattern

My Mums favourite flowers are orchids so they're everywhere around our house! I thought I might as well take advantage of some natural beauty and make an interesting pattern out of it. So I took a picture of the flower then drew the simple outline of the petals and repeated this several times so all of the lines were touching so the space was filled. I was thinking of colouring it in and making the flower look more realistic but I quite like the simplistic shape. Let me know what you think in a comment!

Aya Kato

I have known about Aya Kato for a while and used her as inspiration in many of my own drawings and research work. She works on detailed illustrations of people and scenery, and her designs have beendescribed as 'traditional oriental treatment of subject matter, but with a contemporary feel'. Her website contains all of her beautiful collections so go check them out!

T shirt design

This is just a few photos of a t shirt design i have been working on for a competition but i am not yet finished! I didn't really start off with any set ideas i just started to draw and fit things in where they could go and this has been the outcome!

Sheila Godfrey

We've recently had a painting done of our three gorgeous horses Sam, Hector and Paddy by a local artist Sheila Godfrey and I think we were all quite stunned at how Sheila has managed to capture each one of their characters and personalities in a drawing. So i thought i'd post it up on here to show off an amazing talent that I as an artist am very envious of!
