This is the work of Jeff Gogue and i have recently discovered his work from doing research into tattoos for a competition i am interested to enter. I really like skulls and have incorperated them in quite a lot of my own work. Its interesting to see how he turns artwork into realistic tattoos and on his website there are lots of links for his work, so go check it out!27/07/2010

Work
So today has been the first day in a very long while that i've actually sat down with a piece of paper and a pencil and done some proper drawing. I'd forgotten how much i'd missed it,but there was a purpose behind why i'd suddenly decided to test my skills. My dad recently has been working on a project down in Torquay and had asked me to design a logo for one of the houses he is developing. I thought it would be a great opportunity to get my work published on the developing website, the actual house and on banners etc for the opening evening of the house. So today i have sat down and drawn out quite a few quick sketches to see what he thinks and what i can change and hopefully he will pick one of my designs over getting a professional in to do the work! Logos aren't my strong area so this has been a good developing exercise for when i get back to uni in september!

My Work
Taking inspiration from the artists i have featured below i designed this Alice in Wonderland style drawing quite a while a go. I think if i would of spent more time on it and maybe scanned it into the computer and had a play on illustrator it could of been a better and more professional piece. At a later date i am interested in doing this just to see what different outcome i would have had from using a computer to aid in the design.
Wendy Plovmand
Wendy Plovmand is mainly known for her fashion illustrations which contain her magical and quirky scenes of images. I really like pretty but edgy illustrations that contain certain things that you wouldn't necessarily put there for example she has put animals such as rabbits, herrons, birds, dogs and snakes which are then mixed in with floral, pretty patterns and models or silhouettes of women's bodies. She uses bright colours which she softens out then outlines some things with black so that they stand out, i really enjoyed researching into all of her work and its definitely work i take inspiration from.

Pomme Chan
Pomme Chan's illustrations are pretty and contain floral and swirly patterns but still seems to appeal to everyone and to a range of products. I first was aware of her work as she did an advert for Freya lingerie and i saw it in a magazine i was reading at the time. I immediately researched on the internet who the artist was an have been a fan of her work ever since!
This is the Freya Advert.

Illustrations
For one of my digital design projects at university i had to select several images that had been produced using Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator is probably my favourite adobe workshop as i find it the easiest pick up and learn from. These are just a few of the images i found, i think i chose them because i was interested in how they were produced and designed.

PostSecret
Since going to University I think I've definitely become aware of how influential blogs can be to a designers reputation and career path. Its an opportunity to showcase your work online and potentially a huge amount of people view your ideas and creative skills. I never had really researched into blogs before but now i find myself constantly looking online at other peoples pages and posts to see how they have become so successful.
One blog, however which has always been a favourite of mine is PostSecret and i was pleased to see that it had been rated number 2 in "Time best blogs of 2010." This blog is updated every sunday and shares peoples secrets in the form of postcards. I love looking through it as its interesting to see how people sometimes show their secrets in the form of art and picture with the aid of a few words. These are just a few secrets that have been posted:

First Post!
So this is my first post on my first personal blog and I'm just going to tell you what sort of things you should expect to see popping up on here in the next few weeks, (hopefully!). I want to have a range of images and art styles on here so it will be a mixture of my work, that i have either done whilst at Uni or in my own spare time, work that i want to enter into competitions and the work of other artists which i find inspiring and interesting. I will try to keep this as updated as possible as i think after looking at other blogs they gain a lot from keeping their pages refreshing and exciting!
